Doing a bit of research, it seems that since the dawn of recorded time, almost every culture across the globe has myths about the bluebird. Apparently there is a general consensus between all of us that the bluebird is a symbol of happiness. It portends new births, good health, prosperity, wealth... all sorts of happy and lovely things. (Which makes my mind wonder why we also associate "blue" with sadness... as in "feeling blue", but that's a whole 'nother path.)
And the finished bird... yup, it's blue... and it's happy! What do you think? Pretty cute little bit of folk art, huh?
First, you have to be a follower...
Second, you have to leave a comment...
Third, if you are randomly picked, you have to promise to give him a good home...
Officially the rules go like this:
- This give away is open to all of you wonderful folks who follow my blog (I can't verify that if you follow in google reader)
- The give away is open from this post until 11:59 pm on Sunday, September 4th, 2011.
- You must leave a comment on THIS post... I've been trying to figure out a really fair way to let everyone have more than one comment... not everyone is on facebook (yeah, yeah, I know, I am the last hold out), and not everyone writes a blog... there are even a few who have never tweeted in their life (nope, I haven't not even once, I mean... seriously.. ONLY 140 characters???) so, here is what I've decided... you are welcome to leave one comment on this post per day until the close of the give away. It doesn't have to be about the bird... tell me how the weather is, say hi to someone else who commented... let me know how the kids and grandma are... whatever you wish.
- Since it will be a holiday weekend here in the states, I'll pop over to Random.org on Tuesday and let them work their magic and pick a number. I will post the winner in a blog post on Tuesday, September 6th, and that winner will have 48 hours to email me with their address (or some other address they want it sent to)... I reserve the right to choose a new winner if I am not contacted....
So... what are you waiting for? Good luck!

Pick Me!! He was meant for ME since I am a protector of Blue Birds. Yes, he will come to me, I am sure of it.
I can't describe the thrill of having a pair next in your yard and watching the parents hover waiting for the chicks to hatch.
BUT, I didn't say THIS did I~~~I think I like the Tangent more.
Like Arnold~~I'll be back.
xx, Carol
I love your birds especially this blue one. We had a nest of bluebirds right outside my studio window this year. I posted pix of the parents on my blog.
I subscribe to your blog on Google Reader - I think that makes me a follower (I've always wanted to be a leader, though).
xoxo
HI June!
Now you know i have a cat........but i think i can peruade them to live in harmony. :) Both birds are just wonderful. Please count me in your giveaway! Hugs! deb
He's so cute- but now you're going to have to make another if you give him away so the red one has a friend!
This little bird would be great company in my craft room. I just moved recently from Alaska to Georgia and am trying to unpack and set up all my stuff. How fun to have something so happy to keep me company!
You made a beautiful bluebird of happiness!
Just came by to say hello, to thank you for visiting and leaving the comment on my blog, and to wish you "Good Luck!" on the $300 dollar Cheesecake Factory Gift Card Giveaway:)
Happy Thursday!
I am a follower on Google Reader and love your sweet bluebird. I would love for her to come live at my home and perhaps inspire some flesh and feather ones to live in my woods. Then I would take her to work to inspire the kids I work with to love birds - and she'd get to watch the birds at the feeder so she wouldn't be lonely. Such a lovely bird and idea.
I'm back for another entry. Hope I remember every day!! So you don't think I came back ONLY to enter I'll tell you something....There is a cemetery in a town near me that has a grave from the 1800s. They guy buried there was a gambler. His tombstone has a glass display to show a Royal Flush. I am hoping to hook up with a graveyard tour this October.
I love bluebirds! Every spring and summer we watch the mommy and daddy bluebirds raise their families in our back yard. It's one of our favorite pastimes! Please pick me!!!
Since I so love the bird, I'm back for another entry. And an odd little story about my day. As I was going to unlock the door at work, I noticed a new electrical cable at the bottom of the door. As I got closer, I realized it was a black snake stretched out along the bottom rim of the door frame. He did let me go in and then slithered off into the bushes. I kept an eye on the bird's nest out my window just in case he thought he'd have a fledgling snack. One of the odder experiences at work. Happy Weekend!
Came back to enter yet again.
We have some really cool character birds that hang out at our feeders. One is a cardinal with fraggle feathers on his legs. We call him Choo Choo. Later I'll post about him and you can see why.
Now send my bird, please!!
I came back again to put the word in for the bird!
Also wanted to tell you that I got my fall crafty booklet from Lowes yesterday and they had what looked like a paper mache bird covered in print paper, but not painted. They used it for a prop in one of their pictures.. Made me think of your bird, which incidently, I like better.
Carol
Another comment for the bird and another story. Yesterday I opened the door to let the cat out and there floating before my eyes was one of those huge strawberry spiders. She'd woven a web completely across the doorway. So there's a theme going. Friday the snake, yesterday the spider - both blocking doorways. Today's animal adventure was almost an anticlimax, but probably more of a problem. Evidently my cat brought home a friend to play with, but Mr. Mousie got away. I saw him trying to sneak some cat food, but he got clean away. Spider and snake were easier to deal with!
I see I have competition for my bird!!
Your mind is on ink. I've told you that we love ink. My oldest grandson has a couple of tats. My heart swelled when he had a portrait of Terry and I put on his chest in the shoulder area. We have raised him and I don't know another way that he could have expressed his love as much as this.
Now I am going to go and meet ginigin!!
Have a great Monday.
G threw me a curve...no blog!!
Well, hello anyway G. Good luck to us both!.
Hi Carol - I haven't posted to the blog in a long time. Recovering from Lyme disease. Have done some ink reviews and took photos for when I get the energy up to post. Hmm, is the blog not showing up? I'll ask my son what's going on. The old stuff still shows up for me. Hey, no animal weirdness stories today. The spider has taken up residence near the porch light and I'm letting her stay there least I find her on the door again. Happy Monday!
That is such a gorgeous Bluebird who would be so at home on my dresser in the dining room, along with the other birds in my collection - in fact, would bring some much needed colour! A blog post about my birdie collection is here
http://fiddlesnips.blogspot.com/2011/07/collection-show-n-tell-birds.html
xx
I am, of course, a happy follower.
I'm a follower and I'd love to give this gorgeous bird a home!
Good Morning. Happy Bluebird...I mean Tuesday.
When I was young and my brother was old and married, he had 3 parakeets. One for each of his kids. I went there to babysit and was looking for something in the freezer to fix for supper. I opened a tin foil package and found....a bird...a parakeet. One of the kid's birds had died and he couldn't bare to bury it so he froze him.
Send my bird now please.
G...what is your blog address?
Have a great Tuesday.
Joanna has a very eclectic bird collection. The bluebird would be right at home.
He looks like the "Bluebird of Happiness" so cute. It's very lovely of you to trust one of your followers with such a wonderful creature. If I am at all fortunate, he would find a home in my study! I also have a real budgie called Sky who is a beautiful blue and white. So blue birds for the win!
Carol really wants the blue bird!!!! But I do too! I'd love to give him his forever home. I promise he'll be right at home here! (Yep, I am a follower).
Ha! As i scroll down your list of comments to leave i comment of my own all i could see was Carol, Carol, Carol.......i think Carol really wants this birdie! LOL! I keep forgetting i can leave more than one comment. Thanks for the reminder! Here birdie, birdie birdie ...come to me not Carol! :)
What a Tuesday! We had a 5.8 earthquake here in VA and my desk was dancing along with the african violet. Haven't felt a quake since I left Hawaii and I sort of miss them. Just a reminder that Mother Earth is alive.
Carol, thanks for inspiration to post. I am www.inklings.aslum.net though you may have to add /blog/ but my son was supposed to make it go without all that. I put something up about Fred the snake. Not much there, I got bogged down, but keep intending to get back to it. Lots of inks to review! And working on some art journal pages .... slowly. So maybe the bird would be inspiration?? :-)
"And when he sings to you, Though you're deep in blue, You will see a ray of light creep through,
And so remember this, life is no abyss, Somewhere there's a bluebird of happiness. Life is sweet, tender and complete, when you find the bluebird of happiness."
- Bluebird of Happiness, lyrics by Edward Heyman & Harry Parr Davies, 1934
;)
I'm back!
It's a gloomy wet day in Kent, UK. I've got to go shopping with my teenage kids - trainers for 17 year old son, clothes for 14 year old daughter. Fun, not! I've eaten a homemade summer fruits muffin with a cup of peppermint tea for breakfast - the kids are still zzzzzz'ing so I'd better go and wake them up or we'll never get out. My husband has just gone to bed having worked a 12+ hour night shift (h's a police officer) and we need to get up and out so the house is quiet for him. It's like musical beds in this house!
The other birds on my dresser have made a space for delightful Bluebird......!
x
Another day! It's too darn hot here, but I promise to give the blue bird a *cool* home!
Well, I love this little bird.
My grandson told me this morning that he could not make a muscle because he has cramps in his elbo from too much writing...they have only been in school 7 days...yie I'm in for a rough year.
Come to me bird-eeeee...come to me!
Hi Carol!!
It's a great day here in my part of the UK and I've just come back from my pilates class - which took place outside today because the weather was so lovely!
I hope the little bird has his suitcase packed and his passport ready!
Adorable just is not enough. I am a bird fanatic and would love to have this little bluebird.
You do amazing things my dear. Love looking at your blog with giveaways or not.
Pick me pick me!!! These birds are so cute. Man, I just love them. And hey, blue IS my favorite color. (hint hint)
Another day , another entry!!!! This little birdie so needs to be a Californian! It needs to make the move to CA with me!! New home , new little birdie..Perfect!!
Happy Hump Day! The weekend is getting closer and I can't wait to spend some time on the porch swing watching the birds. And thinking about a special blue bird. :-)
Good Morning! Early here and I'm dreaming of blue birds!!!!!!! :D :D
This is a great place to meet new friends!!
Just a little tidbit here. Terry has a tat on his chest of two blue birds. One has a streamer from his beak with may name on it.
Happy Thursday
Back again!
Rain last night and it's feeling really autumnal in the UK now
You know... I was trying soooo hard not to leave a comment here so I wouldn't have to remember not to count it... but you guys are hysterical... I am cracking up every time I read through these! I do hope everyone is meeting and greeting... and I'm glad that it seems to be going on...keep it up, it brightens my day enormously!
I love bluebirds also June and yours is especially cute! I promise if I win that I will take very good care of him (or her)and give either one a good home.
Hugs XX

A bluebird in the hand is worth two in the bush ... or is that two on a blog. At any rate, I am back again to visit the wee birdie. Maybe we could all foster him and he could go visit all the other aunties from time to time. Like a traveling journal of sorts. He could even have his own scrapbook of his life and travels, each person putting an entry in before sending it on with a photo of where he went on each visit along with the story. Ok, I digress.
ginigin!! Then he could have his own blog!! Birdie Babbles....or....BBB (Blue Bird BS)...or Tales of the Traveling Talefeathers...
I love the idea of Tales of the Traveling Talefeathers! Too funny! I'm stopping by this morning BEFORE I do my post of the day! WOW!!! I even checked out a spot in the living room for the blue birdie to live! :D :D Happy Friday all and if you are on the East Coast ...hunker down and take care. Hurricanes are no fun (I know).
This is so much fun! It's the first place I come when I switch on my computer!
This little bluebird will be right at home here in the UK with the other 'bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover' ( you have to sing this bit!)
How did I miss this?!! Dang, I've already lost a week's worth of chances to win this darling little guy.
I could just kick myself!
I think we are going to have to get momma and papa bird to make more babies so that they can fly out across the world so that everyone can have some sweet bird energy in their lives. Hey Carol, I love the name of the traveling journal for Mr. Talefeathers and the idea of having his own blog. I am half tempted to make one of my own to send round the world with his own traveling journal. Perhaps when I catch up with my snailing. Meanwhile - thank heavens the weekend is here!!! Tomorrow I commune with the birds, after checking doorways for spiders. The huge strawberry spider moved to the back doorway and wove a web not only across the door opening but also attached to the door so that when I opened it, the web moved in. Creepy. I have swept her out into the woods, but I'm sure she'll be back. Can't quite bring myself to kill her, though I noticed that she had already killed hubby. He was lying quite dead below her web. Such is love!
Been away for a couple of days, so have popped back to check on my birdie! Still looks beautiful and happy!
Have a great weekend.
xx
Good Morning everyone. I'm looking forward (not) to another day over 100 degrees. UGH. Looking at Blue Bird makes me smile and hope for cooler days!!! Have a great weekend everyone!
Hi everyone!
Just popping in to check on things!
Where's Carol today guys? Anyone seen her????
Sweet l'il Bluebird, come home to Momma......!
xx
I wish we had bluebirds in the UK - so pretty!
I would love to see a cardinal bird too!
Love the colors, this bird truly looks happy!!!
That little birdie is so sweet! I love him on his nest too. Very well done!! As Gill says, we don't have bluebirds here in the UK but we do have bluetits and they are very pretty too.
Back again to visit Mr. Talefeathers. Wondering where Carol is too. Irene only sent some wind and one brief heavy downpour that started and ended like a switch was pulled. A 15' limb fell on the drive, so it was good I waited till today to walk up to get mail. Birds are happy that it's all calm again.
Hi everyone!
Sunshine this morning after some much needed rain.
My daughter is complaining this morning that our resident Tawny owls kept her awake last night!!
Happy Monday! I hope everyone survived Irene without any trouble. I've been running a little late the last few days. Loved the recipes (especially the spicy noodles). The spumoni cake made my mouth water. Back to the beautiful blue birdie ... I put the buffet out this morning for my feathered visitors ... they begged for more and in this heat, I gave it to them! Poor guys.
As I braved the poison ivy and black snake habitat to feed the birds at work, I realized that they are eating more than my two feeders at home. But the kids love them and they really brighten my day. Much as Mr. Talefeathers would if he comes to live with me. :-)
Good morning everyone!
In my part of the UK it is cool and cloudy! I've been making damson gin and later I thought I'd make some jam - it's been such a great season for fruit of all kinds! There will be plenty of windfalls for the birds to enjoy!!
Come on you guys - where were you all yesterday??
I'm busy making a new bag for my daughter and clearing a nice little space on the shelf for that gorgeous bluebird!
Back again before the day gets busy. Good morning little blue bird. I hope your feathers are all packed to come to my house! :D :D :D
Oh, I thought I posted yesterday. I guess I have deja vu and amnesia. I feel like I forgot this before. (a la Stephen Wright)Or is that I forgot that I felt like this before. Anyway, I'm here to say hi to Mr. Talefeathers.
OK, I couldn't resist. I had to come back and check in! As I was reading G's comment about the spider, I saw some movement on my desk...I think he came back to life and decided to visit HERE!! I'm sending him back to YOU G!
I love this bird. The painted print really grabs me, especially on his shreadded nest. But I think the current project is pretty cool too. I am enjoying watching it unfold.
Happy Thursday!!
Tweet tweet tweet tweet, tweet tweet, tweet.
(Little bluebird understands!)
xx
Been looking at this adorable little bird and I would love to have her sitting on my window ledge. I am a google reader follower of yours. Thanks for this chance to win...
Gosh I've had so many chances to enter and i blew it! But i made it back again . Hopefully it will help my odds! LOL! I need a little blue bird to take to California with me!
Flying in to leave another comment! Fly home to me little blue birdie! I'll give you a good home, I promise! :D :D
Eek, the zombie spider showed up and now is just a splat, Carol. No More!! I need Mr. Talefeathers to eat up all the spiders that are moving in and being sent to me.
Good morning everyone!
Another promising day in the UK!
My daughter has headed off for a job interview today so please could everyone keep their fingers crossed!! including the little bluebird who would have to keep his toes crossed!
Best wishes to you all
Gill- good luck to your daughter.
Ginigin...I had a BABY spider last night. They must be lurking under the paper piles on my desk. I am going to have to spray. Notice I didn't say declutter ~lol~
Come to me birdee, come to me.
Every time I visit, the blue birdie just gets cuter! Good morning everyone. Have a great Friday and Blue Bird ... hope your bags are packed for you trip to me and your new home! You'll like it here, I promise! :D :D :D
Spiders are multiplying like crazy - they seem to be in every corner of my house and on the corners of piles. Vacuum time. Also time to spray with cedar oil again. Spiders don't like cedar, so I spray it in corners of windows and along frames of both doors and windows. It got rid of the black widows that filled the house when I moved in. Thanks for not sending me that one too, Carol! :-)
Stocking up on bird food for Mr. Talefeathers.
What is it with spiders this year? the house seems to be full of them! I remember reading somewhere that a bowl full of conkers (horse chestnuts) keeps them away - anyone tried it??
Morning! Hope everyone has a nice, fun, cool weekend! You, too ... little Blue Bird!
My last chance to win ;-(
Weather is cool and cloudy here today. That little blue bird of happiness would sure brighten things up ;-)
Singing a song of longing to Mr. Talefeathers. Wherever you go, you will have lots of admirers!
I have heard that conkers work from a penpal, but don't know what they are or if they even grow here. I found a 2" spider in my sink this morning - sure did wake me up quick! He had half a Viking funeral, or maybe just a third. No fire, no boat, just glug glug down the drain.
Have to say, this was about the most fun giveaway yet. Even if I am bird-less on the morrow, I will be happy for the one who gets to nest with Mr. T.
That little birdie would have the very BEST home here with me. Hope I win. Thank you.

OK guys - it's our last chance today! So come on little birdie fly home to me!
Good luck everyone!!
Good morning and good luck to everyone. It's been fun. I'm looking forward to giving the Blue Birdie his new home! :D :D :D
He is so very wonderful. I love these birds you are making!
I have 2 little girls that love birds (and lizards) and would love to give this pretty birdy a home. Plus birdie inspires me to create. Pretty! ;)
One last entry for the birdie! Thanks for the reminder! I know my new home in CA will have the perfect spot for it. Hugs! deb
This is what bluebirdie said to me, "Tweet, tweet, tweet, twitter, twit, twitter, tweet, tweet." Roughly translated, this means, "I REALLY want to go and live in Edenbridge, Kent with a lovely lady called Jo."
Just so you know.
xx
Oh this lovely Blue Bird would create such happiness in my life, should I be the lucky recipient :)
Oh, we have one more day to comment. I thought yesterday was the last day to cajole the bird to us. Well, fly to me joyful bird!
Comments are now closed everyone... this has been great fun though... I love how you've all introduced yourself and I'll announce bright and early tomorrow morning who has won!
