More cookies...

Many, many, many years ago I found a recipe titled "Cranberry Hootycreeks". It's a good cookie, the reviews for it are wonderful... but I have to tell you, I thought I could improve the recipe, so I came up with a variation I call "Mommy's Hooties" (I can hear both my children groaning now). I baked some this weekend, and y'all know how I love to share... so I thought I'd share the recipe with you.

What you need:
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar (I never tire of the magic of how you can pack brown sugar)
1 cup butter (softened)
2 eggs
1 generous teaspoon of vanilla
2 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats
1 cup dried cherries
1 cup toasted hazelnuts (I used 1/2 c pecan pieces and 1/2 c almonds in this recipe)
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 cup dark chocolate chips
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. I made these into bar cookies, so I lined and greased a cookie sheet, but you can do them as drop cookies, just get your sheets prepared.

Like most cookie recipes, combine the sugars, eggs, vanilla and softened butter and stir to combine well.

Toss in the oats, flour, baking powder, and salt and stir to combine.

Add the cherries, nuts, and chips.

Stir in well and you have a wonderful fruit and nut filled cookie dough just waiting to be baked.

You can drop them by generous teaspoons (bake 9 to 11 minutes), or pat them into a 9" x 15" cookie pan and bake them as bars (about 20 minutes). They are a wonderful cookie... and they are yummy if you use dried blueberries or dried mixed fruit too!

Yummy... and what a great way to celebrate fall!

  1. Oh yum! These sound scrumptious and I love the name. There'll be a smile in every bite (despite the sound of groaning kids in the background).

  2. Sound good!! I think I'll try these this weekend. I'll have to make a triple batch though. Baked goods don't last long around here.

  7. Well, I hope everyone enjoys them as much as I do.. I just snacked on one a minute ago when I got home from work... I love how the tart cherry contrasts so beautifully with the sweetness of the chocolate and the crunch of the nuts just tops it all of. I can also lie to myself and make believe they are almost good for me since there's the whole oats in there... and cherries do count as fruit... right?

  9. Nothing better than putting your own spin on a recipe! Except maybe putting your own spin on a recipe and then giving it a silly name that embarrasses your kids!!
